How about a Treasure Hunt around the Village?

A walking Treasure Hunt around Catrine will appeal to all young at heart taking about an hour, ideal for individuals or groups, with answers to the questions supplied on a seperate sheet.

Leave Catrine Visitor Centre by crossing road and proceed to the left

1. Which bus numbers stop at bus stop 61801123 ………43/343,X50 & X76.

2. Make of alarm on Ayrbank House …………….ALPHA.
Turn right into Cornmill Street

3.  What colour is door number 8 …………….LIGHT GREEN.

Proceed to end of road turning left onto footpath and follow with river on your right, the grassed area on your left is the location of the origonal Catrine Cotton Mill built in 1787.

Keep right at Mill Square turning right into Bridge Street.

Continue along this path with water on your left, then when path turns sharp left water will be on both sides of path. The buildings to your right are now occupied by Loch Lomond Distilery, and is reputed to be the largest bottling plant in Scotland, creating much needed local employment keeping Catrine alive. These buildings were once the bleaching works of the cotton mill being used to manufacture goods from the cotton produced in the mill, making it one of the first complete factories at the begining of the industrial revolution.
